Context
A coursework simulation project: model the inbound reception process of a warehouse and identify bottlenecks.
What I did
Built a 3D model of the warehouse layout in SIMIO, modeled the reception process end-to-end (truck arrival, unloading, inspection, putaway), and ran scenarios to test the impact of resource changes on throughput and queue times.
Outcomes
The most useful learning was about modeling discipline — every entity, server, and resource you add is a commitment to validating that part of the model. Smaller, well-validated models beat sprawling ones. This is the same lesson that showed up later in WSC 2025 at a much larger scale.
